Obituary of Frederick Melvin Jones Jr.

Please share a memory of Frederick to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Frederick Melvin Jones, Jr. died peacefully on June 30, 2020 at Inspira Hospital. He is predeceased by his first wife, Marie, and survived by his son Christopher; his granddaughters Carey, Lucia and Veronica; and his second wife Sunshine (AKA Kathy). Born September 29, 1946 to Fred, Sr. and Evelyn (nee Fitzsimmons) he grew up in Livingston, NJ. After graduating high school, he attended several colleges, eventually graduating from then Glassboro State College. In 1973 he became a father, having his only child. In his younger days he enjoyed playing baseball, including a stint playing for Bloomfield College; then eventually softball, where he enjoyed the comradery as much as the competition. Chronic knee problems led him to take up golf, where hitting a motionless ball made it easier for him to further enjoy the comradery while complaining about said knee problems to whomever would listen, and some who wouldn't. Although he was a good golfer, his best score was probably on the 19th hole. This eventually gave way to his most rewarding hobby, babysitting his granddaughters. A North Jersey transplant living in South Jersey; he was an avid fan of the Yankees, Giants and whoever was playing the Eagles. He goes to his final rest content in the knowledge that the four Super Bowls he watched the Giants win far exceeds the lone Super Bowl won by the Eagles; regardless of how often he had to hear about it. He is remembered by his friends for his sharp wit and dry humor, as well as such innovations as the Christmas gator adorning the top of his tree and the Easter Beer hunt. His Christmas parties were the highlight of the holiday season for many of his friends. Freddy you always said you were one of God’s favorites. We’re sure that’s true because you certainly were one of ours. Due to the ongoing public health crisis, funeral services are going to be delayed to a more appropriate time. Anyone interested in staying informed of future plans should reach out to his son Christopher at 609-790-8739 or christopherajones@hotmail.com.
