A wonderful man and patriot is gone too soon. I’ll never forget being out on Big Lou Montagano’s(test his soul) F-5 racing boat with Big Ed racing home form Philadelphia. All three of us in a row in the stand-up positions of this off shore racer. Long story short we launched off the wake of a tug wake that we didn’t foresee and flew who know how high and far but upon slamming back to the river the boat died. We were ok with me having a minor injury but the boat would not start. As Lou and I were working under “the hood” Bif Ed hollers…”Is that boat coming toward us?!” Lou and I looked out from in the engine compartment and sure enough, a huge cargo ship was heading right at is in the middle of the Delaware. Lou scrambled for a flare, struck it, waved it and threw it in the air. A spotlight came on and the blast of the horn from the shop was heard. It adjusted its course just enough not hit is head on. Lou was actually yelling push of push off!!! Me an Ed were about to jump for it. Thankfully it passed about 20 ft next is as we looked in awe straight up it silently passed until the end of the ship passed with the whirring of the prop and whitewash. Ed will always be engrained in my heart as one of the nicest and brave men I know. God bless Ed, and Lou. I am the last of that crazy experience and it saddens me that I can never talk to Ed about it again,.
